What’s Your Excuse? EP 066 Blind Snowboarder, Adventurer, and Now Podcaster Emily Trepanier

Hello again;

I hope you are staying safe.

Today, I’m bringing you a bonus episode of the podcast.

I say that because I recently decided to move the release date of my show to Wednesdays to make it easier on me to help my friend Emily Trepanier with her podcast Shredding For Gold.

I interviewed Emily back in September to coincide with the launch of her podcast on the What’s Your Excuse? Network.

Sadly, I ran into some computer troubles and allowed them to keep me from sharing this amazing conversation with you until now.

Emily is a totally fearless blind snowboarder, adventurer, and podcaster.

We talked about so many topics.

She shared how her family encouraged her to set goals and go after them. And how that carried over into her adult life.

We talked about her learning to ski and then to snowboard. And how her love for the sport lead her to set a goal of competing in the Paralympics and winning gold in downhill snowboard racing.

We talked about her love for challenging sometimes risky sports and how she handles the fear.

We talked about what lead her to get a guide dog. And then talked about her current sidekick Darling as well as her first dog Olivia.

And of course we talked about her new podcast. Including the origin of the Team Starfish name and the new podcast name of Shredding For Gold.

It was an amazing conversation. I so enjoyed my time with Emily.

And I almost forgot. In honor of Emily I changed up some of the lyrics to my song titled If You Don’t Ask on the intro.

She loves hearing from her listeners, so please do let her know how she is doing.

I believe this is a truly inspiring conversation, but people can’t be effected by her story unless they know about it.

    • Hi Ryan; I appreciate that in spite of your constant travels you still find time to keep up with what I am doing. You read my posts and leave wonderful comments. That is so encouraging. Especially because quite often yours are the only comments I get. You mention how I am always edging outside my comfort zone. A podcast host recently suggested that I am addicted to challenges. I told him I didn’t like the tone of that remark. I replied that I would rather say I am comfortable being uncomfortable. I also have to thank Emily. She came along at the right time. She is a very proactive woman who has done so much work on her own podcast without my having to provide reminders or accountability. The whole idea of starting a podcast network to help other people with disabilities start their own podcasts is still scary. It feels like I am responsible for their success or failure in a way that I have never experienced before. But the other great thing about Emily is how she has lifted me up. When I complain about not being able to travel and opine about her adventures in the gym, on the water, or flying down the hills; she has reminded me that the WYE Network is my biggest adventure yet. As long as I think of it that way I can be happy and even joyful about going back to conquering the world from behind my laptop again. Dreaming of WYE books, WYE merch, WYE conferences, etc. lol Really appreciate your encouragement too brother. Stay safe out there my friend. Max
