Latest Nepris Talk Talking Starting A Podcast With 9th Graders

Hello again;

I hope you and your family are safe and healthy.

Like you I sincerely hoped that Covid was behind us.

And that we would begin 2022 by starting to return to something more like what we are used to.

But that didn’t happen, and find ourselves once again trying to conduct business, educate our kids, and stay connected with family via the net.

And that makes my latest Nepris Talk very timely.

In case you aren’t familiar with www.nepris.com

They are an online platform that connects professionals like me with teachers seeking experts to give classroom presentations to their students via Zoom.

I gave my first talk back in September of 2019. I shared my experiences with some special needs school kids from Chicago.

If you want, you can listen to it here.

Since then, I also gave a talk on building community and asking for help. That was what they call an industry talk.

Meaning that it was offered to classrooms all over the country.

As you know the subject of interdependence is one that I believe in whole heartedly. It’s a big reason why I have been able to accomplish so much in spite of the many obstacles I have had to overcome.

I also got to sing during that talk. You can listen to it here.

My latest talk was for a class of 9th grade students whose teacher wants themm to learn about story telling.

I loved the assignment because I believe that our ability to tell our own personal origin story is so important to our success.

And you have probably heard me tell people that no one buys you, they buy your story.

Now On With The Show

They had some wonderful questions.

  1. How long should it be?
  2. How do I pick my topic?
  3. What should I talk about?
  4. Should I have music?
  5. Should I use sound effects?
  6. How do I grow an audience?
  7. How do I keep my audience engaged?

And I was supremely impressed that they didn’t ask me about monetizing aka making money from their podcast.

And finally I want to commend their teacher.

She kept the conversation going.

She anticipated nervousness by one student and encouraged that young lady to submit her question through her.

And I was impressed to find how many times we agreed on important beliefs about having a long-running successful podcast.

I look forward to your thoughts. Feel free to let me know if I left out anything important.

Or if you feel I steered them wrong at any point.

I enjoy getting to talk with students through Nepris. I have fun, but take my responsibility very seriously.

I want them to get my best. If listening to someone more experienced doesn’t help them avoid making the same mistakes we did, then what is the point.

Thanks for watching. Please share the link with your friends.

And more importantly consider becoming a Nepris volunteer yourself.

It’s free, you will love sharing with the kids, and you will have the opportunity to meet so many great people.

Thanks for your continued interest and support. I couldn’t do this without you.

Take care out there, Max
