David Goldstein blind host of I Can’t C U visits What’s Your Excuse?

Hello Again;

I’m really excited about the latest guest on What’s Your Excuse.

David Goldstein,

is my latest new best friend who I met at Pod Fest.

In fact I had posted in their face book group that I was looking to share a motel room with someone. A few people had offered, but they wanted more money for my share of their room. David let me stay with him for exactly what I wanted to spend, and he was okay with my not paying him until I got to the conference.

Then to find out he is also blind and an established podcaster with a show focusing on blindness, vision loss, and how we adapt to what vision we have to live our lives on our terms.

We spent countless hours talking. We ate together. And he helped me navigate my way around the hotel for a good chunk of the weekend.

I wish I had photos of people’s expressions watching us follow each other around. Especially when we took the escalator. Something many sighted people won’t even ask us if we can take. 🙂

Sometimes, I went sighted guide taking his shoulder. And other times I followed behind him listening for his cane tapping in front of me. It was a blast.
Now, you are probably wondering what we talked about on the podcast.

Well, first we talked about how blindness and vision loss are individual to each blind person. And how he has to confront the idea that everyone with a white cane and glasses is totally blind.

In fact there were some people we encountered at the hotel who reacted as if David might be faking because he has some functional vision and uses it.

We talked about podcasting and his show I Can’t C U.

He mentioned his most recent episode at that time where he and his family were trying to make board games accessible using only things you already own.

We talked about accessible technology, and how often the cool new tools are over priced for their market.

We discussed traveling while blind and compared our styles.

I’ll give you a hint, his way of traveling is much more adventurous than mine. As many of you know I prefer to find people along the way and ask them to help.

The most important thing he said was directed to blind people, but I think you can apply it to any problem solving situation.

When you are blind, you don’t have to use the same solution every time.

Sometimes, conditions demand that the better answer is to ask for help or stay closer to home base.

While other times cry out for full on Indiana Jones mode. 🙂

Chip Edwards from

will create a voice branding strategy for you to leverage voice speaker platforms like Alexa and Google.

The names people use to ask for a company or to request information on these wireless speakers is called an invocation.

If you don’t claim your invocation, then someone else can. And if that happens, then they get to control what content people will find when ask for you or your company.

Just like website urls or social media handles; once they are claimed they are gone.

You could end up having to pick a name or phrase that is hard to remember or to speak so that Alexa and Google understand it.

And Chip is The Expert n this area. He not only uses them and designs them for people like me and you. He also speaks extensively all across the country on this subject. Virtually now of course.

You can learn more from him by saying:

Alexa open Create My Voice.

Or Google ask for Create My Voice.

And if you are ready to get started, then reach out to him and schedule a call through his website at www.createmyvoice.com

David’s Bio

I’ve been an entrepreneur my entire life, opting to work in my parent’s supermarkets rather than going to summer camp.

I opened a video store when I was 21 years old in 1986 when there was a vacancy in a storefront in some commercial property my parent’s owned that happened to be next to one of their markets that I worked in as a kid.

During the 13 year run at the video store, I landed a segment on a local Philadelphia radio station every Thursday morning to talk about the new video releases, the movie industry, and award shows. In addition, I appeared in radio spots on several other Philadelphia and Wilmington, DE stations in which I also wrote the copy.

In 2004 I co-founded Digital Graphics Design, a graphic and web design company. We create branding for small businesses and solopreneurs, as well as develop their online presence with website design, SEO, online advertising, and web hosting. We continue to help our clients to this day, though more in a consulting role.

I launched the iCantCU Podcast in 2018. I talk about the challenges I face on a daily basis and how I overcome them.

It is meant to show sighted people that blind people can do most of the things sighted people do, we just do it a little differently.

New Course Offering

I’m offering a new training program for people wanting to become the next rockstar podcast guest.

I’ll help you get clear on your story, take you through mock question and answer sessions, interview you on my podcast, book you on four shows, and mentor you before and after each interview.
I do hope you will visit David’s site and get to know him. I think he has a lot to teach us.

Bridging the gap between Sighted and blind has to begin by attempting to understand each other. To realize what challenges we each face.

So many of the trials that come with vision loss are not unique to the blind.

Many of my sighted friends also complain about the difficulty of learning new technology, the aggravating nature of social media, the hardships of traveling to and from work, the juggling of work, family, kids, etc; and so much more.
And yes everyone is struggling through the pandemic.

Sighted and blind alike we are all just doing the best we can to find solutions that work for us in this moment in time.

I think that’s the most important lesson that me and David and many others are trying to teach.

I look forward to your questions, comments, and personal stories of overcoming life’s difficulties.

Until next time thanks and take care out there, Max
