Hello again;
I know it’s been a while since my last post, and I hope you have missed these exchanges as much as I have.
After having neck surgery in March, I just haven’t been able to get back to a normal routine. I know I’ll never be as regimented as some bloggers and podcasters out there, but I do have some expectations for myself.
So, today I’m going to follow up on the post I wrote about this crazy idea I have kicking around in my head called Music and Motivation.
I have another video to share with you. This time it is about asking for help.
This is something I’m finding that more and more people are needing to hear.
It’s also been rewarding to see that my handling of the subject is actually helping some people to get past the stigma of asking for help.
However, I did realize after posting this video that I don’t talk about accepting help when offered. I will have to incorporate that in this segment should I ever perform it live.
So, without any more delay here it is.
I hope you like it.
Why Do I sing?
You may be wondering why I sing.
First, because it still scares me to sing in public. I do it whenever possible to set an example to others working at facing their own fears.
I started doing it during interviews because podcast and radio show hosts requested it. And so many people were impressed by my singing live and unprepared.
I do it for my podcast episodes because it’s easier than getting a more traditional intro created. That plus it’s free.
And I started singing as part of my public talks because my speaking mentor Azuka Zuke told me I needed to.
He has convinced me that my singing makes me unique and helps me stand out from all the other inspirational, motivational, speakers out there.
Would You Come?
Now, I need your help.
I need to know if this idea could really turn into something or if it’s a fun idea that should be reserved for youtube rather than performing it in person.
Do I have a good enough voice to make this crazy idea work?
Would you want to attend a performance of Music and Motivation?
Would you encourage your friends or family to come to the show?
And what would you be willing to pay for attending such an event?
Starting To Believe
I’m starting to believe that people do really want to hear me sing as well as talk.
And it doesn’t hurt when strangers tell me they love my singing.
Just this week it happened twice.
The host of a podcast I’m going to be on said he really enjoyed my website intro video especially the singing.
And a member of a face book group replied to a post about a recent video saying that I should keep posting to his group and keep sharing my singing.
My Excuses
I don’t write or compose music.
I don’t play a musical instrument in spite of many attempts to learn the guitar.
The songs I sing are covers of other people’s work. Like in this video I am singing Daddy Frank which was recorded by Merle Haggard.
Help Convince Me
But if I can be convinced that a combination of me singing my favorite songs, sharing personal stories, and teaching life lessons; will inspire and motivate others to accomplish their dreams and goals; then I’ll be out there singing my heart out.
I have often said that if more people knew how friendly, helpful, and supportive the blogosphere is everyone would have a blog or a podcast or both.
I’ve been encouraged by my friends since posting the first recording in the Music and Motivation series.
I’m hoping that more of you will continue to encourage me until I finally find the courage to book a venue, advertise the performance, and show up to deliver an afternoon or night of motivation.
Suggestions Welcome
One thing that would help a lot is if you could give me some ideas about where I could perform this presentation for the first time.
It would need to be somewhere free or low cost.
Maybe the first time could be in someone’s home?
Would love to hear your ideas.
Please share the video and encourage your friends, family, and social media communities to watch and send me their feedback.
I do appreciate your love and support. I couldn’t do this without you.
Until next time thank you, God bless you, and take care out there, Max
Max I love your voice. Between your physical presence – which is incredibly impressive, meeting you in person – and your beautiful voice, you could definitely book a venue.
I believe you are a walking movie buddy. From blogging, to singing, to spending weeks in NYC, it is all best seller and movie worthy.
Amen to your message on removing the stigma of asking for help. We all need it. I have never met a happy, successful person who did not get help from a bunch of other folks. Makes the journey more enjoyable for all of us because it feels great to give and receive help.
Ryan
Hi Ryan; Well, today marks another chapter in the story. Amtrak lost my suitcase with my suit, books, and laptop in it. I just wrote a new post where I talk about how I”m not letting this be an excuse. Am about to go downstairs and party with the rest of the event speakers and attendees.
I’m sure you can find the new post.
First one I ever did using my ipad and the word press app. Let me know how i did.
And I appreciate your aencouragement.
Maybe it’s time to try pitching agents again for the movie version of my story.
And got any suggestions on how to find a venue.
Love your support my friend, Max
