Hello Again;
This is another post in my Live on the Inside series where I share my latest appearances. This time I am sitting down with Marilyn Shannon and her co-host Amnon of The Breaking Free Show.
I know I tell you that to me every interview is special. And I truly Mean it. However, there are certain hosts and occasions that are more special.
The thing that makes this interview one of those more special is because its video. It was broadcast live on youtube. Obviously I need to do more to get more people to watch it thus blog posts like this one. 🙂
Pre Interview Ritual
As a matter of fact this is the first time I have done an interview where the producer wanted me there early to do a sound and lighting check. And I’ll be honest enough to admit that this made me nervous.
I went through my usual routine of showering, shaving, brushing teeth, and putting on the best of my clean clothes. I hooked up my headset microphone and checked the audio level. I brewed a cup of hot tea and waited for the call.
I should mention that I do all of this even when I know the call will be just audio. It helps get me in the right frame of mind. Also, having something to do can keep you from getting to excited or nervous. And for me its about treating the event with the respect it deserves. I know I could do the show in my underwear, but it would feel wrong.
Checking Lighting And Sound
So, Amnon called and helped me go through the equipment check. He mentioned that the light was only on one side of me. I told him that was because the light came from a ceiling fan and no matter where I sat in the room the light would not be centered on me.
He eventually helped me to understand how to sit and hold my head to get the best lighting. I will admit that it wasn’t a comfortable position and may have distracted me a little during our conversation.
Amnon said not to worry because my lighting was better than a lot that he deals with. I took my usual approach to life and told him well if it ain’t good enough there is nothing we can do about it now. To which he laughed and agreed.
Eventually, I got on with Marilyn and we had a great talk. We talked about my books and she asked some great questions.
I don’t want to give it all away otherwise you won’t watch the video. 😉 However, I want to talk about one thing that did happen because its a great lesson and it proves my approach works.
I Always Ask For More Opportunities
During the pre-show check with Amnon I told him that I noticed he had several shows on the network and asked if there were any others I’d be good for. He said yes he does a current affairs program that I would be perfect for. We are currently working on a time and date to make that happen.
Well, naturally Amnon told Marilyn about this prior to our interview and she was really impressed that I don’t just talk about asking for what I want and need but actually live it.
She made a special point to mention this during the show. She then went one step further and invited me to submit a chapter for a book she is working on about how men find their spiritual center.
I have been working with her, and I can tell you its going to be a great article and an awesome book because she is really pushing me hard.
I truly believe that we have to ask for what we want in life. This could mean asking a friend for help or asking a stranger to be a guest on their show. It could be asking God or the universe to provide your needs. It could be thinking to yourself or talking out loud about taking steps to get to your next level. It all comes down to putting your wants and needs out there. And that’s why I wanted to mention this one point before giving you the links to watch our interview.
Below you will find two ways to watch. The first is an embedded video that you can watch without leaving my website. The second is a direct link that when clicked takes you to Marilyn’s page. It has the advantages of your being able to subscribe to her shows as well as being able to download the video if you like. Something I have already done as this one is going in my vault. 😀

I know we are all so busy these days. You have lots of demands on your time, yet you choose to spend some of it with me. I really appreciate that.
I do look forward to hearing from you. I can’t wait to hear the comments about my first live youtube interview. And I hope you know I’m here for you my friends.
Until next time thanks and take care out there, Max
Hi Max,
I loved this interview! I like the saying your Dad says “If you don’t ask, they won’t buy” Indeed, sometimes we get in the position where there is no choice. This is how I myself had to start my own business offline many years ago. I had no choice.
Love when you share your story!
-Donna
Hi Donna; I’m glad you still enjoy hearing me share it. I did learn a lot of great lessons from my dad and our time in the business. The real trick is convincing yourself that you don’t have a choice. And sometimes all it takes to move forward is to be that guy at the drive through who asks if you want fries with that. I always remind myself that just because I got the booking or the blog post doesn’t mean there aren’t other opportunities available if I ask. I didn’t know about the book or the other show before the show. I only found out because I asked Amnon and impressed Marilyn. Thanks so much my friend. xoxo Max

Hi Max — I watched most of your video. (The host took too long in her intro). You said something very important about your preparation. It’s important to look your best because then you feel your best and do your best. Even if you’re doing an audio interview, as you point out, it puts you in the proper frame of mind. I’m glad you’re getting all these interviews. Congrats!
Hi Jeannette; I think she also had too many commercials. But everyone has their own style. I sometimes worry that I’m not creating enough of my own content, and then I remember how much time went into the book. Then I tell myself I’ll do better tomorrow. 🙂 And yes its important to have a routine that helps you get in the right frame of mind. One of the reasons I still sing in my videos is because it gets me off to a good start. Also, taking the time to learn the words and practice the song lets my mind get relaxed prior to pressing record. Thanks for being in my fan club. Take care my friend. <3 Max

Hi Max – you are becoming a STAR. Good for you. I remember not too long ago where you were quite unsure of yourself but you kept moving forward. I feel privileged that you took me (us) along for the ride. Thanks and the best of luck as you conquer more of those things you never thought you could. You Go, Max.
Hi Lenie; Have a big smile on my face while reading this one. and there wouldn’t be a ride without great people like you encouraging me to be open to new possibilities and take on new challenges. Thanks so much, Max

This is a great post, and also a great comment on you giving credit to those who assist you.
I know, as a former radio host, preparation is the worst part of any show. It can take forever, and even when done right, does not mean success. I am glad yours did.
Thanks for sharing this with us.
Hi William; Well, I talk about all the people who help because I am truly grateful for them. Without them doing the hard work that goes into putting on a show I wouldn’t have a place to share my story and promote my books. And preparation is a big part of being successful at anything. I thought people might benefit from hearing about it. Routines give us comfort and help us relax so that we can give a good performance regardless of what arena it might take place in. Thanks again, Max

This was an inspiring post. I liked that you pointed out we need to ask for what we want. I also like that you get dressed up as part of preparation even when the interview is completely audio. You are becoming very comfortable and polished in the interviews.
Hi Donna; Thanks so much for that complement. I have to admit that while I am in the moment polished is not the word I would use. lol I probably don’t appreciate whether I am doing well or not because I am usually trying to focus on the conversation. Its one of the most mindful things I do. You really have to practice active listening and be in the moment. And I don’t have a great wardrobe, but I do always put on the best I do have. I don’t own a suit something I need to do something about if I’m going to continue to become famous. 🙂 You are a wonderful friend. Many blessings, Max
