Hello again;
Yes, I did use famous to refer to myself. Maybe well known would be more accurate. But the question remains.
If someone you respected offered to help you with your business or a specific aspect of it; would you take them up on it? Would you give it your hole hearted effort. Would you show up as people like to say?
Some of you know that last year I created an online course to teach people to use podcasts and radio shows to share their story, reach a wider audience, and build their brand.
What many don’t know is that this course hasn’t been a big seller for me. And this is in spite of the fact that I have lots of shows under my belt and have been frequently asked for my suggestions on how my friends can get booked.
Most of what I know about marketing I learned from working games or selling food on a midway. And when I would work games, I’d always have to show the players that they had a real chance of winning. I was actually one of the best ever at showing games like the milk cans or bushel baskets.
So, I decided to put my money and time where my mouth was. I started reaching out to people who I thought could use my course. I offered to help them locate shows and craft a pitch email. I had a few say it sounded like a good idea, but no one followed through.
Tim Olson, TIMO, Took Me Up On My Offer
Until I appeared on The Timo Show with Tim Timo. We were talking after the show and he admitted that he wanted to do more shows to promote his show as well as his new book Growing Up Nobody.
I told him to work up a rough draft of a pitch email and send it to me. With the holidays and his show schedule we didn’t get it done as quickly as either of us would have hoped. I was dealing with my energy drain too.
But we worked together and finally had a great email worked out. I’m going to include it here. I’m sure it will be okay because Tim does want to do more shows. And by posting it here; everyone can find out just how amazing a guest they would be getting.
Timo’s Pitch Email
My name is Tim Olson and I am looking for opportunities to share my story and help others who maybe feeling lonely and hurt.
I have written a book called Growing Up Nobody where I talk about being raised in a dysfunctional home. My dad suffered from mental illness. He was diagnosed with depression and paranoia. His insecurities made our home life difficult and it was only made worse when he lost his dream job. He became angry and bitter as his family started to fall apart and when my mom left him he fell into a downward spire and never recovered. I was left to tend to him and his mental illness as my mom moved to California and remarried. I was 17. Over the next 5 years I would find myself dealing with his delusional thoughts, anger, and his declining mental state which was made worse when my mom suddenly died. He believed that our family would once again be reunited. I then had the task of raising my sister and taking care of my dad until he died three years after my mom. I was 24 by the time all of these events occurred. In between I also had my own personal failures including a marriage.
Thankfully, I became a Christian at age 40, and this helped me to forgive the people who had hurt me as well as helping me to forgive myself. Forgiveness is the biggest part of my book. I believe it helps people live a better life when you forgive those who hurt you. Because of forgiveness I was able to let go of the anger I carried around for my dad and many others.
Now days, I am a husband, father (of 3) and a business owner. I helped develop a men’s ministry at Hope Lutheran Church in Fargo where I help men become better husbands and fathers and help inspire others with my story. I host a podcast called “The Timo Show” where I interview interesting people who have a story to tell about their lives and are now helping others. My wife and I host Bible studies, marriage classes, and have recently started to write for a site called FamilyShare.com.
If it would help you to decide about whether or not to have me on your show, I would be happy to send you a copy of my book. Its something I usually offer to the host because I believe they can ask better questions and we can have a better conversation if they have read it first.
I have been featured:
On the podcast “Don’t Box Me In” with Lana Reid

“Spiritual Minds Radio”
In the “Dad’s in the limelight series for the blog “Dad of Diva’s”
and the podcast “Father Nation”.

I believe I would make an amazing guest and look forward to discussing this with you further. I appreciate your time and consideration.

The Timo Show
Managing Your Perceived Shortcomings
Tim hasn’t done a lot of shows yet, so he doesn’t have an as seen online page like I do. So, he decided to get around this by including the show links that he does have right in the body of the message.
I agree that this is a great solution. And its important for people not to resist sending out emails just because they haven’t been interviewed very often or at all. There has to be a first time, and many show hosts will respect the courage it takes to ask for that first interview.
Success
Tim has used this email to get a couple new shows of his own. And I sent it off to one host for him because I was sending off emails for myself and thought why not help Tim out at the same time.
I just heard that he has been booked on The Brian and Sherri Show
I will be on their show on February 26th, and Tim will follow me on the 27th. Here is a short description of their show.
An online radio show in it’s second season which talks about an array of different topics, guests and more. We love to talk , so what better way than to have special guests on the show to share there creative talents, products , music and books.
This last bit is an example of another thing I teach which is promoting your appearance both in advance and after the show is over. I need to do a better job of this one myself. 🙂 Not that any of my recent show hosts have complained.
I created the online course because my friends had been asking me how I got booked on so many shows. I used to reply to their emails with lots of helpful information. Then my good friend Michael Babcock encouraged me to turn it into a paid course.
There is so much good information in the audio course. A couple of people who reviewed it even told me that there might be too much in it. I was told some may be overwhelmed by it and prefer a more hands on course.
I’ve been considering offering just such a course. So, I want to ask you what would something like this be worth? Just think about having a expert in using podcasts and radio shows walking you through the entire process.
The course would include helping you get clear on your story, determining what shows would be a good fit, craft a pitch email, prepare for the interview, promote the appearances, and conclude with an actual interview you can use to send to show hosts.
Thanks To Timo
I have often been told that I am unusual in that I don’t have to invest lots of hard earned cash into a course or program to do the work associated with getting the best results out of the training in question. I want to thank Tim Olson aka TIMO for deciding to take me up on my offer. It was a pleasure working with him, and I look forward to even bigger things from him as he continues to grow his radio show.
Has FREE Training Ever Worked For You?
What kind of person are you? Have you benefitted from any free training? Or do you have to pay for something for you to put in the work to make the experience a success? Has a free ebook ever changed your life? Have you ever had a breakthrough after a free coaching session? Do you feel like you can or have helped anyone during a free exploratory call?
What About Contest Prizes?
How about when you win a free ebook, coaching session, or online course? I have been successful at winning things like this. And I have enjoyed putting into practice what I learned from them.
I wonder if winning something isn’t the same as paying for it. I mean if you have to attend live webinars, listen to live calls, promote the event on social media, etc; then you are having to pay for it in the form of time and effort. So, I imagine that people who win training products or services are far more likely to embrace them. Perhaps having a contest might be a good middle ground between charging for something and offering it for free.
One example that comes to mind is that a blind person wanting a guide dog has to raise a few hundred dollars of their own money to be eligible for the dog. The amount of money is no where near what the dog is worth in the time, money, and training that goes into raising a dog from a puppy all the way to their being an effective functioning team mate for a blind person. The goal is to require just enough investment that the blind person will do everything needed to be a good owner.
Gaining Confidence
This has been a great experience for me. By helping Tim I have become clearer on just what a more in depth course will look like. I have helped him become more successful at getting bookings, and this gives me even more confidence that I can show others how to do this for themselves. It also tells me that I could do the work for a client who wants to do the interviews but doesn’t have the time or patience to do the work.
Its one thing for your friends to tell you your advice helped them start getting booked on podcasts and radio shows. Its a whole other thing for someone you just met to take your help and have it work for them.
I honestly believe that doing these interviews has helped me build my own brand and that it can be helpful to others seeking a way to get their name out there. After all, so very few of us are famous or infamous enough that the national TV or radio talk shows are tracking us down. 🙂
Sharing Is Caring
I hope you will share this post with your friends, family, and coworkers. I’d love it for you to click the buttons and post it to your social media networks. And I hope you will leave comments. They are the life’s blood of a blogger and the best way to tell your favorite online writers that you love their work and appreciate all the time and effort they put into their posts.
I know you have lots of options on how to spend your time, so I really appreciate your giving me a few minutes of it. Many of you read my posts on a regular basis. And I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your love and support.
I look forward to hearing from you. I I really enjoy it when something I have said or done leads to your ignoring your excuses and overcoming some obstacle in your life. Perhaps you have a story that would even make a good post for everyone to read.
Until next time thanks and take care out there, Max
I’d be interested in training on starting a podcast or blog.
Hi Amanda; Those are both great goals. I am probably not the perfect person to ask about the how. I’m more of a why do we do the things we set out to. And I’m a great motivated. I suggest you contact my friend and fellow blind entrepreneur Michael Babcock at yourownpay.com He has done quite a few video trainings on how to start a blog whether yu be sighted or blind. Thanks for the comment, Max
I am delighted that I observed this website, exactly the right information that
