Do you have a gratitude page?

Hello again; People often ask how I manage to stay so positive and optimistic. They say no one can find the good in everything. They say you must have down days, and they would be right.

Well, maybe I don’t have down days; but I have had down minutes or hours. So, I thought today I would share something I have done to help remind me of how good I am doing.

What is a gratitude page?

In the post title I asked you if you had a gratitude page on your blog or website. In order for you to answer the question I first need to explain what this is. We all have had some success in our business or professional lives. However, we don’t always think about these good days when we are in the middle of a stressful situation. Just one bad event can have you feeling like a failure and questioning whether or not you should even be doing whatever it is you are doing.

So, what if you had a way to remind yourself of just how well you are doing and just how far you have come? This is where the gratitude page comes in. With abundance or gratitude the more you focus on it the more of it you will have in your life. The gratitude page is a way of reminding yourself of your past achievements.

A while back someone suggested having a file on your computer with a list of all your accomplishments so you could look at it when you needed some motivation or inspiration. They suggested you could even create a board in your home or office with photos and clippings. I decided that since everything now days is online why not create a page for this on my website. So, what I did is to create a page I call as seen online. It has links to every time that I have appeared on another person’s website. This includes interviews, guest posts, and podcast appearances.

How I use it

Now any time I start to wonder if I am ever going to reach the level of success I hoped for when starting out; I can go visit this page. I can click on the links and read what people said about me in their round up posts. I can read the comments from my guest posts. I can read the replies from the site owners. I can check out the number of comments and shares. I can also see how my writing and my message have progressed as I have gotten more of these experiences. All of this helps to remind me of how far I have come.

An unintended benefit

This gratitude page serves another purpose that I had not intended on. Say, someone is considering asking me to write a guest post or take part in their podcast? Or what if I want to submit a story idea or an idea for collaborating on a video or some other project? Now, when someone wants to know more about me, I can send them that link along with links to my websites and blogs. It acts as a kind of poor man’s digital press kit. Some sites will allow you to include two links with a guest post. For future reference I plan to use the as seen on link as my second one.

My good friend and sometimes editor Lorraine Reguly recently had the idea to turn it into an even more impressive calling card. She suggested that we replace the plain text links with links using the site owner’s logo. Like I said everything is online. Well, everything online works better with images. 🙂 She convinced me of this, so I asked the site owners for permission to use their logos. Everyone was very generous. Lorraine redid the page for me. Everyone likes it, and I’ve even gotten a comment posted to it.

You do have accomplishments to include

Now, before you tell me you have never done anything that merits being on such a page; I will tell you you just haven’t thought about it long enough yet. We have all done things we are proud of, but the continued push for even bigger successes causes a lot of us to discount our wonderful victories. I know that I don’t always give myself credit for things until I sit down and think about all of them. This used to be only when a friend asked me the question so I had to actually make a list. Trust me if you start counting those events on your fingers you will most likely need both hands. But you have to actually make a list and count them.

A recent example

As an example last week an interviewer asked me what accessible technology i used when we still had the carnival. I told her I only got my first computer with speech a year and a half before the show folded. Until then me and my dad had booked spots using a large wall calendar, a perkins braille writer, and our memories. And with only seven rides we managed to compete with much larger shows with lots more resources. I had forgotten about that, but when someone forced me to think of those days; I was impressed with what I had done to help keep the family carnival rolling. I’m sure you have experiences that give you pleasure, you have just forgotten or under valued them.

Now, when I add a new link to my gratitude page I take a few minutes to read back through the other links and remember how it felt when I got the news about each one. It always puts me in a good mood. Even the ones I had to ask for, and even the ones where I thought what am I thinking when I did them. They are all blessings and I was blessed in some way by each one of them.

The lesson

The lesson is that we all have to take the time to appreciate ourselves. We have all done great things, we just don’t always realize it at the time. For some its because they were raised not to brag; and they see recalling successes as bragging. Some people honestly don’t realize how special what they are doing or have done really is. I used to be one of these with the awe shucks any time someone said how impressed, inspire, or motivated they were by my actions. Far to many of you are just too busy working a regular job, taking care of family, learning new skills, trying to build a business, etc. And some people are so focused on the big goal that none of the little successes along the way mean anything to them. I know that you have to celebrate every victory and sometimes it helps if you can go back and relive one of your better days.

Did you make a list?

I know that if I had read a post like this, or maybe while I was reading it; I would be thinking about how it applies to me. So did you make a list? If so, did you do it in your head, did you say it out loud; or did you actually write it down? Do you already have a similar page on your website or blog? Has this post encouraged you to think about starting one? I hope it has because accomplishments grow when you think about them, count them, and especially when you give thanks for them.

Sharing is caring

This is the part where I ask you to share the post or leave a comment. But I want to be different. If you enjoyed reading the post, then I hope you will visit the page and click through to these people who have been so generous by inviting me to be part of their communities. Once there, you may decide to read a post and discover a new voice that can teach you more about yourself, your business, or why you are here. If this example motivated you to start your own page, then please mention that in the comments. Feel free to share some of the good stuff that you plan on including. Let’s have this be a positive love fest that gets us all ready to take that next step. And if you feel uncomfortable leaving a comment, there is always the contact form.

I love hearing from you regardless of the reason. If you want to get to know me better or if you just want to say hello. If you have a question, just ask. I’m known for being too open if anything. If you have a post you want to share or something you need my help with; I’ll do what I can. It may turn out that you are a perfect client for my coaching services. Or I may be able to help with just a kind word. Whatever, I am here for you. Thanks and take care out there, Max

  1. You were right Max, as I was reading your post I was thinking about how it applied to me. To answer your question, I do make a list and find that I need to review it often to see what needs to be added (or subtracted). I do write it down. I don’t have a page like that at this time. I hadn’t actually thought about until after reading your post. It’s a good idea that bears some consideration. 🙂

I know you to be one of my most supportive friends. and you make a good point. there will come a time soon that I will need to prune some of the links. I think I’m still at the I’m happy and blessed to have them stage where it would be hard to think of removing any of them. glad to see I understand what my readers are thinking. 🙂 and so glad you used some of your very limited time to read and comment on my post. thanks so much and take care, max

  2. Hi Max,

Oh yes…having such a page is SO important, for yourself and for others you link out too as well 🙂

Congratulations on your page, and you know I already commented and shared it the moment I saw it earlier – thank you for doing that dear friend.

Speaking of myself, as time passes and so many people link to you or have you over for interviews – it becomes tough to have so many logos or images on one page (page loading takes time), and when I realized that I needed to have such a page and sat to make the list, there were just too many people I had to link out too.

You can see such a page, which is the ‘About’ page on my blog. It says little about me but more about the blog, and shows all the links of those who have linked to me, mentioned me, or where all I have been interviewed and where all I have guest posted, and I keep adding it all up there.

It’s one way to give back to those who have been so kind and giving to us I feel. And as you rightly mentioned, it’s one way to go back and visit them or remember those times, and even link to if required.

Earlier I used to even have the numerous awards I received from many on the same page, but I shifted those to ‘Achievements’ as I wrote small posts on them, which was again when I was new to blogging around 2 years back.

With time, things change and as we grow, though we let go of a lot of things, but gratitude is something that I just cannot forget.

Thanks for sharing this with us – a great reminder for those of us who still have to make their pages. Have a nice weekend 🙂

You are right eventually I will have to remove some of the images or break them up into more than one page. believe it or not i’ve yet to receive any awards not even the ones your friends nominate you for that are basically just blog hops disguised as awards. Just the other day i visited a site where the owner had over 100 testimonials most of them audio or video. I thought they may all be treasured but posting them all felt like over kill. of course we are in very different stages and maybe my opinion will be different at some point in the future. I doubt it and hope not. thanks for looking out for me, max

  3. I’ve been really lucky to realize already at the age of 19, that the basic state of living is “happy”, and single incidents, no matter how painful they are, do not change that. So, however dissatisfied I’ve been, or sad, disappointed, angry or frustrated, I’ve never lost that basic feeling and forgotten to be grateful about it.
Believe me, there has been times when I had every reason not to be…
But how could I, after all I’ve tattooed it on my skin, a reminder of the circumstances that lead me to realize it. I see it every day and I’ve added more to accompany that one. That’s my gratitude journal all over my shoulder. I have scars I rather not remember, but also those I never want to forget 🙂

  4. Hey Max,

I actually don’t have a page like that and I didn’t keep up with all the guest posts I’ve written or all the other ones that I’ve been mentioned in. To be honest with you, it’s hard to keep up with is all now.

Some of my earlier guests posts, those blogs have shut down so they’re long gone. I guess when I started this I never assumed that anyone would really care or that I would be where I am now so I just didn’t really keep up with them all. I wish I had but there’s no way I could remember them all now.

I do have a morning ritual though and a gratitude list that I go through so that is always in the front of my mind when I go through my own slump days. I’m just truly blessed in that respect and that will have to do for now.

Great share Max and enjoy your weekend my friend.

I am obviously still at the beginning or at least in the early stages so this was easier and more necessary. I’m sure you never take anything for granted. And i can tell by your words when you are featured on another site that this never gets old for you either. The key point is to take that time every day in whatever format works for you to remind yourself that you are special you are successful and you have so much more in front of you. and like i said this idea may work better for me since making a board in my room wouldn’t have the same impact for me. I appreciate all your support and encouragement. take care my friend, max

  5. Hi Max

I am such a huge advocate of gratitude that I have dedicated a section on my blog specifically for gratitude and gratitude matters. I have done quite a few posts on that topic. So it is nice to see you have a page that you have set aside for that.

We can never forget to say thank you to the people who have impacted our lives one way or the other. Being grateful for blessings we have received opens the door for even greater blessing to pour in.

Great idea for your website Max. Thanks for sharing. Have a great weekend.

  6. An online gratitude page is something I have not thought of. I might have to try this. I have written out a lot of gratitude lists and I do find them amazingly helpful. They can serve as great reminders to appreciate the small things and they can also help you reframe your thoughts. I would write gratitudes out to things that were making me angry or such and be appreciative for what they were teaching me. Over time I became less angry. It does work.

Hope you are doing well Max.

I have a page on my business website (not the site where I usually blog) that highlights mentions from fellow bloggers. I created it as a way to remember who remembers my contributions … and to remind me to thank them and share their writings, products, etc.

Thank you for writing about this. We can never be too grateful!
